“The boundaries between art and design are getting more and more blurred. I read an article lately stating that today it is not the object itself, but rather its economical functionality that determines its categorisation. The most common distinction (between art and design) is that design is more accessible because it is usable and deals with how you live your life. I think it is very possible to transcend these values into storytelling and poetry.”

Trond Nicholas Perry interviewed by Lisa Stålspets in the quarterly art magazine Måg, (www.maagmag.com)

LevArt has invited Trond Nicholas Perry and Agata Sander to explore the idea of furnishing and to imagine furniture that both challenge and inspire for the new LevArt Project Space in Levanger. On the occasion of the duos first research trip to Levanger, LevArt has invited Lisa Stålspets to engage in an informal conversation with the artist and architect about their ideas on art, design, the poetics of furniture and more.

Trond Nicholas Perry

Born in Kristiansand, 1977. Lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.

Perry works in various media and materials. There is a social aspect as well as a strong poetical presence to his works, that often take the form of sculptures or objects exploring the boundaries between art and design. Perry holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Art Academy of Trondheim. He has participated to several exhibitions, most recently “M3 – Unblock” – Warsaw public space, and “Rooted Design for Routed Living –alternative design strategies “ Center for Contemporary Art, Warsaw.

Agata Sander

Born in Western Australia 1984. Lives and works in Warsaw, Poland.

Sander holds a Master degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from Warsaw University of Technology. She has worked within several architectural office teams, as well as with individual projects. Most recently Karwik – Individual housing estate – concept, Quantum Music Machine (with Trond Nicholas Perry), Gulatinget visiting centre- competition entry (with Tomasz Kujawski) and Waste Collector – EVOLO skyscraper competition entry (with Tomasz Kujawski) for which they received an honourable mention.

Lisa Stålspets is an artist currently living in Oslo. She holds a Master of Fine Art from The Art Academy in Trondheim. She is also contributing editor for the art magazine Måg.

”Dialogos”, a work made by the Norwegian artist Hans Hamid Rasmussen for LevArt, can now be seen at the new exhibition at Rackstadmuseet, Sweden. Twenty-three individuals living in Levanger participated in the project and embroidered their personal stories of belonging to a place in the form of a logo. Although ”Dialogos” has its permanent place at Levanger City Hall, the artist’s intention is for the work to travel in different ways; as free embroidery patterns or as works of art taking the form of postcards on a shelf. Rasmussen will also give a presentation at the seminar.
