Building the Future Together:
about Self Building, Civic Participation and Urban Ecology
Friday 28th September 17.30-18.30
Talk and discussion
Saturday 29th September 14.00-17.00
Open workshop
On Friday, 28th September, Nøysom arkitekter (translated into English as Frugal Architects), collaborators of the PARK project, will present their work that actively deals with sustainable architecture, participation and self building, the importance of cultural and artistic centres in the urban ecology and working with in-between spaces such as those on the fringes of urbanity and sub-urbanity. After the talk, you are encouraged to participate in an informal discussion about ideas and possible architectural gestures in the park at Kirkegata 11. Drinks and snacks will be served.
On Saturday you are welcome to be part of the first open workshop with the architects between 14.00 and 17.00. It is possible to drop by at any time. The premise is to create dialogue about the possible physical transformations, responsible actions and citizen planning that the residents of Levanger can do to help create a common future for the PARK.
Nøysom Architecture (Frugal Architecture) consists of the architects Haakon Haanes, Cathrine Johansen Haanes and Trygve Ohren. They may be best known for an experimental self-building housing project in Svartlamon, Trondheim, where five families have built their own houses by simple means and extensive reuse of materials. The project started in 2013 (while the architects were still students at NTNU) and was completed in 2017. As architects, they want to raise awareness about the value of frugality in architecture, at a time when efficiency is the great mantra: “We believe that we need a more nøysom, or frugal architecture. A more environmentally responsible architecture that asks what we need and what makes us happy, and not just what we are willing to pay for.”
